“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom”

Tomek Maciaszek - Psychotraumatologist and Mindfulness Practitioner, Gdynia / Online

I'm Tomek.

Psychotraumatologist, certified Mindfulness practitioner, CPT and PE specialist.

But before I tell you about my qualifications, I want to say something more important.

For 17 years I lived with the pain they call the "suicide headache"

Cluster headache. One of the most intense pains a human being can experience. Daily, unpredictable, debilitating.

For 17 years I organised my life around pain. I avoided situations I couldn't easily leave. I carried oxygen cylinders and injections. I experienced dependency, isolation, and PTSD from simply waiting for the next attack.

Medicine helped manage the pain. But it wasn't enough.

Recovery came through a different path, through systematic work with the body, mind, and emotions. Through understanding how the nervous system works, what holds pain in the body, and what really lies beneath the surface of symptoms.

Today I am free from cluster headache.

That experience of being both therapist and patient is at the centre of everything I do.

Why I work with trauma

When I went through what I went through, I discovered that physical pain and emotional pain are more deeply connected than we're led to believe. That the body remembers what the mind tries to forget. That inner peace isn't a luxury it's a biological need.

I started looking for answers. I studied the internal patterns that shape our health. I completed a master's degree in psychotraumatology. I trained with world-leading specialists as Bessel van der Kolk, Janina Fisher, Stephen Porges, Ruth Lanius.

And I understood that what I had been through could become a bridge to understanding others.

For several years now I have been accompanying people through the process of healing from trauma (PTSD, C-PTSD) the effects of a difficult childhood, chronic pain, and chronic stress. In Gdynia and online, in Polish and English.

Who I work with

I welcome you if:

  • You are dealing with PTSD or C-PTSD symptoms - anger outbursts, sleep problems, a constant sense of threat, difficulty concentrating

  • You feel that the past is still influencing your present life, relationships, and decisions - even if you're not always sure how or why

  • You experience chronic pain or somatic symptoms that doctors find hard to explain

  • You're looking for someone who understands not only from books - but from lived experience

You don't need to know "what's wrong with you" to reach out. It's enough to feel that something isn't right.

How I work

In my practice I combine evidence-based approaches:

CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) - working with the beliefs shaped by trauma that continue to organise your life without your awareness.

PE (Prolonged Exposure) - gradual, safe approach to difficult memories and situations that helps reduce their intensity.

Mindfulness - building present-moment awareness as a tool for nervous system regulation and access to your inner world.

Body work - because trauma is stored in the body, not only in the mind. Integration of somatic experience is part of every piece of work we do together.

I work in Polish and English. Sessions are held in person in Gdynia or online.

I receive regular supervision.

I also write about what I've been through

On the blog I share knowledge about trauma, the nervous system, emotions, and mental health, written not academically, but up close. From the perspective of someone who has been through it themselves.

I'm also writing a book. Over 180 pages about what worked in my path out of cluster headache as a map of the body, mind, and nervous system that I want to make available to those who are looking for it.
